The other morning, I decided to play around with the Rule of Thirds – although this is stretching it a tad bit. Sunrise, Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) except for the cropping. So this could be posted as cropped, or Rule of Thirds.
Lines of intersection are not exactly on the mark, but close enough for Government Work. 😀
Turned out to be a pretty cool shot!
The persona of home spun comfort and all the rules adhered to! Good job Iona.
I would say that ended up being a text book shot of the rule of thirds (plus a pretty cool image in itself)! Nice!
Tammy! Thanks for your encouraging comments! Your visits are always appreciated.
Well captured Iona. I like the way the lense flare adds drama to the image. You have depth, trio and windows to boot.
Jens! Leave it up to you to find other themes within this shot!! 😀 Your comments are appreciated, as is your stopping by.
I love it – multiple themes in one! Good catch on ID’ing those Jens.
Terry! Did I ever tell you that I love your screen name of Montucky?? How did you conjure that up?? I know Montana has something to do with it. Were you originally from Kentucky?
Thanks. I thought it was cool too. Especially since cropping was the only thing I did to it.
Many years ago a friend started calling me Montucky because my tendency to spend a lot of time out in the mountains reminded him of the pioneers in Kentucky in the late 1700’s. He just combined “Montana” and Kentucky”. I kind of liked it.
Terry! Well, whatever. I like it. 😀
Ron! You always know how to sweep a gal off her feet! Thanks!!
You were up early! You’ve got the sun flare nicely on the intersection of the upper left diagonal and horizontal lines, too. Great example of Rule of Thirds.
KarenB! Thanks for dropping by and leaving your encouragement. It is always nice when others like whatever it is I’ve posted. 😀
I love the warmth of that sun flare! A very comforting photo and good demonstration of having the focal point offset to the left third of the shot.
Karen S! Thanks for dropping in. It is always nice to get come complementary critiques of my photos. 😀
Glad you think this was a good demonstration of the focal point as it turned out to be. Thank you.
When I started snapping photos of this sunrise, I was hurrying as it was rising at a terrific rate. I knew the opportunity would be gone in a matter of seconds. We were still very cold and had a trace of snow yet left on the ground.
My shots were aimed with the intent of: #1 – to wind up with little, or perhaps none, of the school buses in the photo (the background is of the school bus yard). #2 – align the shot so a small, but decent, sun flare would be captured without having the sun completely obliterate the shot.
Personally, even though the photo is not as “slick” as some I see on this VPw, it turned out pretty well for a point and shoot camera. 😀
Thanks again for your encouragement.
Don’t ever run your camera down Iona! This is so nice I especially like the flare from the sun and the warm homey feel.
Ellen! Thanks for the reprimand! lol I need to remember that! Your kind comments are appreciated. Thanks for dropping by.
What everyone else said – plus, it’s just a very warm, homey shot! I commend you for seeing the sunrise. haha…..I normally only see that if I get up to go fishing-which has been a while now.
Eleanor! 😀 we all need to be awake when the sun comes up once in a while to appreciate its beauty. After all, sunrises can be as dramatic as sunsets, and I’m hooked on both! 😀 Thanks for your visit and comments. Both are appreciated.
Hardly anything left to say! Oh, yes, the silhouette is a good frame for the action in the sunrise. Amazing that the sun didn’t overpower the image….
Sis! Thanks for your observing what I tried hard to achieve! Great catch! Thanks! Drop by anytime! 😀
Hello Iona!
How are you? The sun shines through your window. I wish it did here, too.
Great photo for the theme. Fyndigt också:-)
Leif! Hello to you too!! Haven’t heard from you in a long while. I’m still hanging in – but have not yet had surgery.
Yes, the sun shines here. Not like where you are at this time of the year. I think I’d go batty without the sunshine. 😦 Should sent you some photos I took while out today. Nice ones with sunshine through the clouds. Love those kinds of photos.
Always enjoy your visits and comments. I’m not so certain I am clever, but thank you for thinking so!! 😀
Don’t stay away so long this time. Have missed your comments.
Beautiful backlighting here! I wish I had the energy to be up for the dawn more often!
Jessica! It does not take much when you go to bed then wake at 2:00 unable to go back to sleep again! 😀 Thanks for the visit and nice comment.
IONA!!! How are you doing? I am partaking this year but in another group from you. I am doing my best to comment on my groups shots and when I have time I am going to others in the other groups.
I love this photo. The sunlight is beautiful and I really like the windows and the silhouette. Great take on so many of the themes!! 😉
I’ll come by and visit when I have the time although next month is looking a bit crazy for time as we have the Olympics here in town and I am flying an awful lot!!
Take care my friend!
Sue
Sue! Howdy, friend!! I’m still doing, I fear. Keeping up with this group has been a full-time job. I get a few comments in on other blogs, but very few.
Still am not able to get out much as DH has to do the driving now. Looks like I won’t have surgery until Spring, but that is subject to change.
I knew you were going to be out a lot and figured I’d try to catch up with you, but have just gotten waylaid.
Thanks for the visit and encouragement. When I have time, I’ve got to update you on the pie and another cake recipe. 😀
